Seeing as of 18 months ago, no British tour operators offer package deals to Vassiliki we decided this year to organise everything ourselves.

So.

Contacted the owner of a small apartment in the part of town that we always favour, sorted some dates, arranged a flight, confirmed the dates. Tickety boo. This was all done in March just to let any bombshells to filter through, and give us time to sort them. We were due to fly out this Sunday coming, but this all changed as of Monday just gone.

A call comes through from the intermediary who arranged our flight to Preveza, telling us that "so sorry, but your flight company has just e-mailed us to say that they are no longer operating a route to Preveza. We'll refund the cost of the flight". AAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgh.

We could not find any flights to and from Preveza on the dates that we needed, so we were faced with a 2 week holiday that we could not get to.

So.

Organised now is a flight to Kefalonia (our 2 weeks holiday now starts next Tuesday - and the woman at the apartment was kind enough to shift nights for us, bless her). After landing, we are hiring a car then going to Fiskardo to catch the Captain Aristedes ferry to Vassiliki. Of course, the car hire company would not let us hire a car in Kefalonia and drop it off on Lefkas, so we have to hire it for the 2 weeks. Luckily the refunded money from the cancelled flight covers us for the cost of the Kefalonia flight and the car hire.

Phew.

Could have done without the hassle and stress less than a week before departure!

If its any consulation, Fiskardo is a lovely little port, worth a walk round if you get some time on your hands. Hope it all works out for you.

They are, but i) we don't want to go windsurfing and ii) Club Vass' hotels are in Pondi, not Vassiliki and Pondi is nowhere near as quiet and relaxing. Going with Club Vass would have cost a further £300 more per person also.

Nice one - and good info. I'll be on Cephalonia and Levkas in 2 weeks time, but on a (rented) yacht, natch. As previously mentioned, Fiscardo is well worth spending some time in. Take a trip on the ferry to Ithaca too while you're there. Kioni is particularly nice.

We visited Ithaka 4 years ago (Frikes), and it was lovely. It seemed a little bit quiet though, which is why we love Vass so much; not too quiet, but lively enough with locals to make it interesting (there is one regular - a local taxi driver - at The Vass Bar we nickname "Formula 1" because he speaks at 18,000rpm after a couple of Cutty Sarks).

Two days to go now!

Enjoy it - I'll be there in (just under) 2 weeks time!
