Looking at getting a late deal in the next three weeks, when the above cropped up.
I always thought this time of year + Caribbean = hurricane? Thats is why it is considerably cheaper in these months?
Then, it was suggested to me, that the DR doesn't particularly suffer from them?
Anyone offer some advice?
Thanks.

I have just returned from the Dominican in "hurricane season" we stayed in the north of the island and there were maybe 2 days we had rain, yes it was quite heavy but lasted 30 minutes at the most (just enough time to leave the beach go up the bar and drink a beer and rejoin the sun) i can happily say it was one of the best holidays i have ever been on, locals were very friendly, if you can i would reccomend going to the amber musuem where the idea for jurrasic park came from apparently, dolphin swim at ocean world was good, there are numerous boat trips worth doing just for the views and cigar trips well worth doing.. i am not 100% what the weather would be like now? we have been back around 3 weeks now. (also when buying anything always only pay 25% of the asking price is one tip a mate passed onto me)
A beach is a beach, aslong as i've got a large rum and coke to hand, and plenty of sun, im happy. If Mrs sheps doesn't like it, then tough!
My only worry, is getting battered by a hurricane or the like.
Conflicting reports of "You'll get sent home after 3 days, because of the season" etc etc, and;
"It'll be fine, 99% of them miss DR anyway"
Is the only thing putting me off booking yet.

I got back last week from the Dom Rep. I stayed at the Ocean Blue & Sands in Bavaro on the East side and it was brilliant.
We had a fairly large storm one night, not a hurricane thoguh, just thunder and lightening. But that didn't kick in until bed time anyway. Other than that, a couple of short bursts of rain. Wasn't at all windy. I would definately recommend it.

I went to the DR a few year ago this October and had the best beach holiday I've ever been on. Weather was great, one or two showers that lasted 30 mins but within 10 mins it's all dry again.
We stayed at the Iberostar Hacianeda Dominicus and can only say good things.
Enjoy you holiday, I'd love to be going

Just a question or two now.
Whats the best currency to use?
American Dollars, or the local? ( that i forget how to spell
)
And..to put Mrs Sheps mind at rest...alot of friends have said the obvious; Don't drink the tap water etc, but we've also been told about drinking out of glasses when out and about, something about the chemicals they use to wash them.
Any other do's and donts?
Thanks.
