I looking at using one of these round the world tickets, as they seem pretty good value for money.

At present i'm planning the following:

London
Shanghai (4 nights)
Hong Kong (4 nights)
Singapore (3 nights)
Sydney, whitsundays & carins (12 nights)
Hawaii (5 nights)
Las vegas (3 nights)

and then back to London.

Current prices for the airfare is approx £1300

Does anyone have any advice or changes I should make?

Edited to add, i'm 28 and going with my parnter, and we have recently come back from a road trip around the west coast of the US)

Thanks

Unless you're planning on doing a lot of shopping, drop a night in Singapore.

(This may also be true of Hong Kong, but I've not been...)

We quiet fancied the night safari and bits like that in Singapore, but we might be able to do it in less time.

For HK, we went there last year for 4 nights, and felt rushed. This time I wanted to get to Lantau Island, and hopefully go to the Intercontinental Hotel for the Sunday champagne brunch, yummy.

4 nights in HK is a lot.

Try the garden island whilst in Hawaii

We found Cairns disappointing

How about one less night in each of Shangers, Honkey and Singvegas and spend these 3 saved nights in Bang cock instead?

Just spend the whole period there. You won't get bored.

I love Singapore. 3 nights wouldn't be enough for me, especially if doing the Night Safari. smile

We went there last July, and apart from Sirrocco, I wasn't a fan.

I prefered HK to be honest.

hawaii isnt as good as u think - persoanlly id go to new zealand too its fab. didnt think much of singapore unless u want to go shopping u'd be better off going to a thai island for a few days. vegas only needs 2 nights otherwise u'll lose all ure money. dont end up spending all your time at an airport. wouldnt do 4 nights in hong kong its too similar to shanghai. have you been to NY maybe one night there before u go back?

are you after nice hotels or backpacking type trip?

I was tempted with NZ, but I thought i'd want longer there, maybe with a hire car.

We're many looking at nice hotels, but with good vfm.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys.

Well that's all pretty good, but to me reads like a string of Westernised cities spaced at regular intervals round the globe, that is if it were me I'd be looking at a variety of different cultural experiences on different continents. Put it this way, it breaks the "never go anywhere that has an Irish bar" on most if not all stops. Hard to do in the time you have, granted.

I understand where you're coming from, driving around Aus, and seeing the "proper" Thailand would be great, but I just don't have the time. 4 weeks (give or take 2/3 days) is all i can take from work, so I just don't think I can do the less touristy things.

I was hopefully using this trip a bit like a taster menu for the world, and see what I like, and don't like.

I've been to Hawaii - I wasn't that impressed. Honolulu like a big dirty American city. Other islands apparently nice but you might be better off stopping at a South Pacific island instead - Cook Islands, Tahiti etc

I've heard a lot a people say Honolulu isn't that nice, so I had planned to spend one night there, so I can see wikiki and pearl harbour. Then I was planning on going to the big island for 4 nights, so I can see the volcano, and the observatory. Might even hire a jeep for a couple of days, and go exploring.

pearl harbour is just an ugly port with a wreck with an american flag on top hawaii really isnt that great. i completely agree with the chap that said your trip sounds like a trip of westernised, colonial places. not criticising but careful you dont end up just staying in the same type of hotel experiencing the same thing whatever country you are in. as you say though difficult in a month and whatever u do it will be fab and leave you wanting more

Pearl Harbor (sp!) very interesting. Wikiki less so.

I see you've just come from a trip around West Coast US so I would also bin Las Vegas. How about Mexico or even South America? I remember with One World you could go to Santiago via Easter Island.

Is there a reason for doing this all in one go? I never did the gap year "thing", and have resigned myself to a three week holiday every year to a different place. Am quite happily ticking off one place a year, unrushed, getting into the heart of the place then spending the next year planning the next trip.

So far I've managed Japan, Vietnam/Cambodia, Kenya/Tanzania/Uganda/Rwanda, India/Nepal, Indonesia/Papua. Probably back to africa next year and bit of the middle east this year. Just prefer to spend a bit of time in each location and relax a bit more.

That's just me, maybe you are different.

Toastgirl and I did a ROW trip in a month a couple of years ago.

London
Singapore 3 nights
Sydney 3 nights
Uluru/Ayers Rock 3 nights
Cairns 3 nights
Auckland - Christchurch overland in campervan 2 weeks
Fiji 3 nights
LA 3 hours
London

Fiji was just after the coup so the whole place was in security shutdown, LA we'd done before. The rest of the trip was fabulous.

I never did the gap year thing either, so have been doing the 3 weeks holiday each year thing too.

The main reason in doing it like this, is that be and my better half are very serious, and hopeing to have children sooner than later, so what to do something like this whilst we can, if you know what I mean.
