Holiday Inn, holiday In Express, Travelodge etc etc

Need to stay in a bog standard "motel" for a couple of nights in Nov
Have a choice of Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, travelodge or Premiere Inn. All pretty much the same price (£60/night).
is there any difference between them? don't usually stay in business travel hotels, so have no idea of their relevant merits! Key is a comfy bed please.

Unfortunately I spend a few days each week living out these places.
Although there are exceptions, Travelodges are the worst - all the ones I've been at recently have even lost the pictures off the walls and any room furniture. Clean certainly, but like being in cell block H. I would avoind unless it's location makes it a no-brainer or it's waaaay cheaper.
Holiday Inn Expresses and Premier Travel Lodges are significantly better, and quite a few are genuinely nice places to stay. Not enough to choose between them based on the rooms alone; but if you plan to eat 'on site' (I'm often away from city centres and decent eateries) then normally the restautants [or bar menu] in Premier Travel Lodges is better; quite a few of the Holiday Inn Expresses I've been don't have a restaurant at all.

Premier Inn would get my choice but I'm surprised they are not more expensive - they are usually about £10 - £20 dearer than Traveldump AFAIK.
I have stayed in a Holiday Inn Express once and it was actually very good.
Travelodges are s
t though and you should avoid at all costs; they don't put shampoo and soap in the rooms and you soon realise the penny pinching doesn't stop there.
Premier Inn are not luxury but I have always found them clean and they have very comfy beds. I use them all the time and you petty much always know what you are going to get. The only thing that lets them down is the life-size cardboard cut-out of that annoying t
t Lenny Henry that they put in all their receptions.

Get on to laterooms.com and you'll find a decent hotel for around the same price as one of these budget motels.
not in Taunton you won't!I did get the Travelodge down to £12.something a night though - stayed there 3 nights a week for about 3 months. Horrid place.
Holiday Inn's are usually a real hotel with full facilities (restaurant, bar, even a gym) - check holidayinn.co.uk for detailed spec per location. Normally free parking.
Holiday Inn Express' are budget version. No restaurant, but free continental brekkie, not always a bar. again check Holidayinn.co.uk for exact spec.
Premier Inn similar to HI Exp but often with full bar and cafeteria style restaurant or adjacent pub etc.
Travel lodge to be avoided unless it means sleeping in the car really.
