4 of us will be flying into Gatwick midday on 26th December. We need to get to Heathrow, 3 of us will have snowboard bags as well as normal luggage. Could someone point me in the right direction please?

Recommended you anticipate 3 hours for leaving Gatwick to check-in at Heathrow.
Train, bus or taxi, distance 30 miles.

Which is an average of 10 mph. Welcome to Britain's integrated transport system.

Train would be Gatwick>Victoria>Green Park>Paddington>Heathrow - on Boxing Day? Ouch! The Gatwick>London and London>Heathrow are charged at rip off rates.

There should be a coach running between the two - for Boxing Day you shouldn't anticipate any problems on the M25, this is the cost effective solution. Suggest you prebook.

Prebooked taxi won't be cheap - probably £60ish.

Metered taxi pickup at Gatwick, I'd hate to think...

Would the fastest way to do it be to take the Gatwick Express into London, then the Heathrow Express back out?

I once did Heathrow - Gatwick in a Helicopter, but I don't think they run that any more...

The best local taxi company are carline 01293 430430 they are much cheaper than the airport taxis.

There is also a national express coach running between the two.

Can't you book online? - National Express coaches run between the two I think, if the driver is sober.

Stopped once the relevant bit of the M25 opened. Might be a case for reinstating it.

The coach is the best option and is likely to be much easier than the combination of Gatwick Express and Heathrow Express as well as about £25 cheaper

Between 3 of you a taxi probably won't be much more.

We landed at Gatwick back in July and had to get back to Heathrow to pick up the car, we used the National Express shuttle bus and IIRC it was approx £20 each if booked in advance.
It took around an hour, this was at 10am ish.

National Express, that's what I've done in the past.

I doubt they'll pull your pants down because it's Boxing day either.

I bought at the airport, and they try to sell you a ticket for a specific departure time IIRC you can buy an 'open' ticket just in case you miss it.

If you fly with BA you're laughing as T5 is just off the M25
If you fly with BA you won't be laughing as they just did away with their free sports equipment policy.

Probably fairly cheap to hire a very cheap rental car, pick up from Gatwick and drop off in Heathrow on a one day hire. Probably pretty quiety on boxing day as well

Yup, love this...

They wanted £30 each way for my domestic flight to take a snowboard bag, Jersey to Gatwick...

Chosen to fly with Flybe instead as it's 'only' £22.50 each way...

We've adjusted everything a little now, there's only 3 of us needing the transfer now with 2 snowboard bags, for the kind of money they wanted to take boards on the plane it was worth us just sharing a bag.

Count yourselves lucky. You have a good choice of airlines, if we want to get off this islands we have no choice but to pay the extortinate prices BA and Flybe offer!
