Good Afternoon,

I am 18 years old and work for myself selling designer clothing. Just over a year ago, I travelled to Italy and stayed with an italian friend for 2 weeks. I really enjoyed my stay and since I have been back, always wanted to travel back out there for a longer period of time. Throughout my life I have always had everything I have ever needed and would say I am very fortunate coming from a priviledged background in a nice area. All my life I have been pampered by my parents and never really feel as if I am standing on my own two feet.

At school, I studied Spanish and really enjoyed the oral part of the subject but really did not get on with essays and writing aspect of the subject. However, I personally believe that school has a very special ability to make even the most interesting subjects, boring! For example: I have discovered over the last year or so that I really enjoy learning about Business. I studied this subject at school and despised it. Now I am in Business in reality (A VERY VERY SMALL BUSINESS!), I find it fascinating and although very difficult and competitive, I really enjoy what I do when it comes off. The same goes for language, I love it when I am learning in an everyday scenario and dealing with people and having to use it. Unlike school, you physically don't want to cheat because you want to learn!

There are several reasons why I want to move:

- Meet new people.
- Learn to speak another language fluently without having to sit in classroom.
- Experience the way other people live their lives and be a part of this.
- Learn about Italy.
- Completely throw myself into situations which are way out of my comfort zones!
- Nothing to lose! If it all goes wrong, I can simply move back!

Now the reason I am posting this topic is for several reasons. PH is general I think is brilliant! I have recieved a large amount of help ranging from information about cars to business advice. There is a lot of interesting people on here and the travel section will be no different.

I have a few questions I would like any advice or answers to if at all possible.

1. Residence - In the past, whenever I have gone on holiday abroad without my parents, other people have booked the flights and found the accomadation, but this isn't a holiday I am on about!? I want to move out there. Where do I start looking for residence for me to actually live as appose to a holiday accomadation?

2. Employment - Where do I even start looking for work? Ideally, I need a job to go to for when I land but who would employ somebody they have never met!

3. Social - How would I get out and meet people? Do I just walk up to a group and start talking? Which I can't anyway due to the language barrier!?

Any help or points in the right direction would be massively appreciated!

Many thanks,

Baxter
