I'm in Hong Kong and had my passport stolen and am heading off to the British Consulate in the morning to get another one. Anyone done this before and know how long it takes - am I likely to have it in time for an afternoon flight or should I just accept that it's going to take all day.

And yes, I'm a pillock for having it in my back pocket - they also got my camera and some cash - and we were only saying last night about the apparent lack of crime. Doh!

Not sure if it helps but do you have a copy of your passport to bring with you?
Could you get a copy e-mailed from someone who may hold a copy such as an employer?

That sucks, if you can get a copy that helps, I have also remembered my passport number.

Yeah .... done it before. Twice in fact!

Normally the quickest it can be done is 48hrs - so long as you have proof of travel..

Otherwise it will take two weeks.

You may not get a full passport but you will certainly get some form of travel documents that will get you onto the plane and into the UK. I had my Passport stolen when travelling in Turkey, they offered either travel document or passport, I needed a Passport due to onward travel plans, but if i'd been leaving for home by air a simple "British Visitors" style passport would have been enough.

Four hour turnaround for a full UK passport - amazing! On my way to pick it up now. I guess slightly easier as Hong Kong, but still very impressive. Not cheap at £160 but far better than the post office manage!

Copy passport helped - cheers for the tip. Must get photocopies of this one before I head off!
