Anyone been to Goa recently?

I’m planning on taking a cheap beach holiday soon, and Goa is on the short-list. I’ve not been there for many years, but I’m fairly familiar with the beaches in the North (Anjuna, Baga, Calangute and Candolim), and also the South (Varca, Colva and Cavelossim).

Now, I know that Goa is not exactly a top class resort (by any stretch of the imagination!), but a friend who went there earlier this year says that it’s gone seriously downhill since he was last there (5 years’ ago), and wouldn’t recommend the place.

Anyone been there recently?
