Working in Dubai and Qatar

My wife is a manager with a large consulting company and may have an opportunity for a job in either Dubai or Qatar. What is working in these countries like, particularly from the point of view of a western female? Any ex-pats on here? Any views/advice would be welcome.

I did 6 months in Doha. I wouldn't go back, no matter how much the pay was, or even for a holiday. Mind, this was 1989, so things may well have changed.
At the time, the local paper (Gulf News, I think) had a headline boasting how their tourism industry has seen a 100% increase in two years. No mean feat, you'd think, until the figures revealed that, in 1987, they'd had 12 visitors, increasing to 24 in 1989.
