Could do we some help here. We're flying to Munich later on in the year, and then traveling down to Salzburg (cheap flights - and it avoids using Ryanair!!). I pretty familiar with Salzburg, but could do with some nice hotel ideas between, for a couple of nights. Mountain setting & views a bonus.

Thanks.

I've stayed (in a youth hostel, admittedly) at Prien am Chiemsee, which is nearly halfway between the two cities. Absolutely wonderful, huge lake with views over the Bavarian flatland to the edge of the Austrian mountains. A really special place that I have vowed to return to, possibly this December!

Here's a snap I took in Sept 2006 from a little elektroboot.

ETA: I'm planning on going to Munich for a week in December, I'll probably do a few daytrips to Austria and roundabouts… such a lovely part of the world, let me know what you decide on!

Recently, the site of Hitler's Berghof has been built on and there is now an Intercontinental hotel...its very nice...just a thought.
