The in-laws were visiting from Lanazarote last week, they were to fly back on sunday morning. I rang Aerlingus on saturday afternoon to book an additional case for them. paid over the phone (£10) and the guy gave me a reference number.
I dropped them off at the airport and when they checked in the reference number i'd been given was for a completely different flight (to/from amsterdam!) The check in desk then charged them £213.00 eek for the extra case. Apparently this was made up of the charge for booking in the case at the airport (£15 according to their website) and 22 kilo's of excess baggage. I.E the contents of the case.
Surely even if aerlingus fked up the advance booking for the additional case, the £15 would have covered them for the first 20 kilos in the case and they should only have been charge for 2 kilos of excess luggage?
Aerlingus won't discuss it with me over the phone, citing data protection act, until i can quote them the name of the person who made the booking and the last 4 numbers of their credit card - they booked it through a travel agent in Lanzarote so i've asked the in-laws to go see him and try and get this info from him.
Is it not against the rules for a case to be booked onto a flight if the person isn't travelling on the same flight?
