Might be a bit late to get in anywhere but i fancy taking the gf this year, has anyone been. Is it worth doing and do you think i've a cat in hells chance of getting a room for less than the cost of the UK's national debt?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, bloody great fun, went about 3yrs ago (live in Kent), room prices were very reasonable barely a few miles and a simple bus in from the city centre.

Edinburgh - stayed next to the airport and it cost us something like £120 for the room on NYE and the generic £60-or-so for the few days prior in (I think - perhaps 5yrs ago now) a premier lodge type thing.

From the airport it was just a 15min bus ride (very good bus service) in and out of the city centre everyday, rather than parking (we drove up from Kent).

Ah... thumbup

I'd go somewhere other than Edinburgh... http://www.obanhogmanay.co.uk/ for example.

Hogmanay.

We did it once. Bought a package at a hotel in Pitlochry. Gala dinner. Band.

It was like those shows they used to put on in the 70s.

Never again. Just not my thing. Everybody else loved it, of course, as you might well.

Not to that one, but I've spent Hogmanay in quite a few places and generally found the smaller places to be more fun. Edinburgh is pretty impressive as a massive street party, but not really my cup of tea, it's just so busy. You'll know yourself if you're into that sort of thing, I think I might be too old! laugh

Cheers,

FT.

Hmmm you've got me thinking now (hard i know) but i'm no spring chicken meself. Been all over Scotland and love the place just never done Hogmanay and want to take the GF as she has never seen Scotland. Normally she gets a nosebleed if she goes further north than the watford gap so would be nice to take her somewhere in good old bonnie Scotland thats going to have a good atmosphere for new year.

So many options then! Self catering cottage perhaps? Or a house party in an old hotel somewhere like Aviemore, e.g. The Cairngorm, with another party in the street?

Loch Ness or Stirling would be good too.

Cheers,

FT.

Come up to Stonehaven and see our annual Fireballs ceremony. Health & Safety have installed barriers these days but it's still great to watch.

I've looked at Oban but it looks like getting anywhere to stay relatively cheap is gonna be impossible.

I'll look into Stonehaven.

Thanks again.

I live in Edinburgh, would not recommend it at Hogmanay. It seemed to be the place to be 5 plus years ago,now it is dying a death, much better and cheaper places to go.
