Emmigrating to Canada
Discussion
I have, I moved to Winnipeg just over two years ago, I am currently working for 12 months in the UK for complex reasons!!
Canada is an odd place, there are lots of positives about the place and some negatives. I have never lived in Van' but it is a lovely place to visit. Unfortunately for folks moving there it has the highest real estate prices in the country, some would also say the worst climate (its very similar to the UK) There is a quite a big gang problem there at present (just like any big city, then).
As for emmigrating it is a challenging process, the paperwork is lengthy for permanent residency, and if you dont want to do that work permits have been the alternative, but apparently the canadians are not as keen on handing these out with the current climate. On balance I would say that the cost of living is probably the same or a little higher in canada than the UK. If you are keen to move you need to have some set idea of what you are trying to achieve, and then determine as well as you can that canada can offer you this.
You would need to check whether your professional qualifications are recognised in canada, eg in Manitoba an experienced Dentist qualified from the UK would have to return to university for 2 years before he can practice under his own name.
If you have any specific points I will try to answer them
