What do you mean by close to the tourist areas?
Timhotel Montmatre is in the middle of 'old Paris' - Place Des Abesses etc, close to the Sacre Coeur and 45 minutes walk/20 minutes bike ride (the best way to explore Paris) from the river.
You'd have to spend significantly more to get a similar hotel in one of the main tourist spots, and miss out on exploring all the interesting areas in between.
It's also only about 20 minutes walk from the Eurostar.

I stayed at Hotel Magenta which is about 15 mins walk from Gare du Nord recently. Clean hotel, a good sized room, free wifi and a good enough for us breakfast.
Spotted they drop the price to a last minute booking price via their website, the later you leave it - ended up paying 95 Euros a night for 3 nights for the 2 of us with breakfast.
There's a Metro station about 5 mins away.
