Oktoberfest - when to go?

Morning all

Im just in the process of booking flights/hotels for Oktoberfest next year (18th Sept-3rd Oct). When is best to go? The flights are similar for all the three weekends, so should I go for the starting weekend, middle weekend, or ending weekend?

Or should I go mid week? Im fairly flexible, so would like to go at the best time. If is doesnt make a blind bit of difference ill just go for the cheapest.....

I appreciate there have been a few Oktoberfest threads before, but none seemed to answer this question.

The weekends are busier than the busy bits that are in the week.

I went at the beginning of the first week monday-thursday, if you didn't get a table by early afternoon you'd had it.

I think the second weekend is when all the Italians turn up - don't go then.

Its just all very, very busy, if your a drinker get down there early, get a table, and last the course. If your not get down there early, get a table, and then go home early

Cheers for the help, I think we are looking at the opening weekend at the moment, thats when the flights are the cheapest...

Actually I don't think it runs in October.

I went this year with friends and we went on the last weekend in September, which was the last weekend of the festival. It was great but I'd probably go earlier and try and book a table at a tent, in advance, as they were absolutely packed.

The last weekend in September was the middle weekend for the festival - it closed on the 4th October.

This years dates are 18th Sept - 3rd October.

Well said. But please don't try and go on the opening weekend - it'll be mad and if its your first time you might be a bit pissed off with it all !! Its bonkers !!
