Planning the our usual March 'getaway' and have decided to stay in the UK this year.
Looking for ideas of somewhere to spend a long weekend.
Current ideas were cities to allow a bit of shopping and a bit of cheesey tourist stuff, and a good night life, had almost lined up Manchester just to do the Coronation Street tour but apparently it's not available anymore. frown
Hotels in the centres and nice but not the Ritz. wink
Open to ideas of cites...must have a cheesey tourist attraction or two, or leftfield ideas.... scratchchin

As much as I love it, and theres plenty to do in the surrounding areas - the centre of Leeds is a fecking disgrace, and I would NOT reccomend anyone pay good money to stay there. Rundown, filthy, divided.

Harrogate or York are just a few miles away and much easier on the eye.

Leeds is a none starter, we have friends there and go up quite often anyway, in fact we have a trip booked there before the March one. rotate

Not a thing....except £200 a night is a bit on the 'over bubget' side for a bed to crash in for the night. wink

Not exactly French but the best restaurants in Newcastle are The Black Door Restaurant or Malmaison's restaurant on the Quayside http://www.malmaison-newcastle.com/indulge/brasser...

Or there is Seaham Hall which is about half an hours drive from Newcastle city centre.

One thing Newcastle is lacking is some seriously good restaurants.
