Hello

Need some advice from adventurous types. Climbed Kilimanjaro a few years ago and loved it. Looking for a new adventure next year. I'm not an experienced mountaineer, so an Everest summit is probably out (!). Some ideas I had are:

- Inca trail
- Everest base camp
- Bhutan

Any ideas/recommendations? Where have you been and enjoyed?

Cheers

I have done the Inca trail in Ecuador and it was just a bit of a hike rather than ascending any peaks.

However I never went to Machu Picchu which is supposed to be stunning.

Have you tried the Tower Hamlets run?

Just walk through the area with bulging wallet and an iphone and see if you can get to the other side without being shot/mugged/buggered.

When I say physically challenging - I mean an excuse to keep fit and get rid of a spare tyre rather than something killer. Although I would consider anything.

The Inca trail is probably the easiest of the three you mention.

Something closer to home, try the Chamonix- Zermatt haute route (walkers, not the ski version). Lots of options on routes, great scenery, good infrastructure via Swiss Alpine club huts and options for a couple of 4000 metre climbs on the way (Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, etc) but not mandatory!

Do you need experience to do this. Looks pretty scary but fun

Some jokers took us on a pub crawl through Hackney. Probably the only time I've ever been scared in London.

Not as dangerous as Tower Hamlets but did this in June and was really good and a real challenge

Managed 96 hours and then went and enjoyed the Texas nightlife in Austin

no experience required, quite safe (accidents can happen and a week before i went a woman was killed slipping on the snow), an be a bit of walking if chair lifts not in use. the views are amazing i will post some pics when i get home.

Instead of Everest BC (what's the point of going part way up a mountain). Mera Peak - Highest Trekking peak in the world. No mountaineering skills needed really other than good fitness.

what's wrong with a pub crawl in Hackney - done it loads of times... in fact used to most Fridays... Dalston used to be a bit dodgy but even that ain't bad now...

Back on topic:

Inca Trail has started limiting numbers apparently, takes some advanced planning but is a good trip. Not done the rest (apart from the Tower Hamlets run which makes Hackney look middle class)

I've done this too and as above, only experience really needed is a bit of time in the mountains. Usual caveats apply of looking where you're putting your feet etc and a head for heights can also be helpful on some of the higher grade routes. Fantastic fun and the Colletts staff are excellent.
