SWMBO had booked a few days in Yeovil at the end of the week smile

Not really familar with Sommerset apart from some of the south coast and as I don't feel the need to reduce my impact on the environment by being aware of environmental issues and becoming a eco-friendly green traveler the county official tourist guide isn't much help either.

Any suggestions for nice pubs / scenic drives / walking?

Pubs: The Masons at Odcombe (just outside Yeovil), Cant remember the name but the pub at the bottom of the hill in Mudford, again just outside town. The food in both Pubs is the best you'll find anywhere. Scenic drives: head south towards Lyme Regis or Lulworth, also if windy go to Portland Bill. Walking: Ham Hill, as in Ham Hill Stone, Clint Eastwood loved the stone so much he had it shipped over to build his place in Carmel,(bit of useless info therenerd).

Go to The Gardens? getmecoat

Erm, on a more serious note, Fleet Air Arm Museum is close if that's of interest, as is Haynes Motor Museum. Both well worth a visit.

Scenic drive:

Click for route

B to C - nice scenic drive on good road. At Cerne Abbas you have the rude giant on the hill.

D - Maiden Castle, largest iron age hillfort in Britain

E to G - famous Dorset coast road, F being a great view east towards Portland across the Fleet lagoon at Abbotsbury hill. At E in Nottington there is an unusual, pinkish octagonal house.

G is West Bay, a nice harbour at the west end of the 18 mile long Chesil beach:

H - great view of Eggardon hillfort and across the patchwork of West Dorset's fields

I to J - fast, sweeping road

K - Beaminster tunnel, longest in Dorset

Near the end of this video:

L - Winyards Gap pub for food

M to N - nice, fast, twisty PHing road

Food used to be absolutely superb. Rooms are nice too, by the by. East Coker is particularly charming.

Yup, I think they had new management a few months ago as there were adverts on the radio about it. I've never eaten there but I hear good things.
