Weekend abroad idea's

Every year my Xmas pressie to my brother and his wife is a weekend away with me and my wife. Previous years we have been to Prague, Krakow, Cologne, Gibraltar and Ljubljana. This year I am thinking of Istanbul, Helsinki, Edinburgh or Athens.

We are all in our 40's and like a little history but most importantly like good food and decent traditional bars etc.

Does anybody have any opinions on the places I have mentioned or indeed any other possibilities?

I went to Barca last December. Plenty of culture and if you find the good local places, the food and drink are superb

vienna? fly in direct or into bratislava then take the boat up the danube straight into the centre.

Salzburg? Picture postcard pretty - city centre only 20 mins from airport - lots of history, culture, some great bars and great restaurants.

Went to Barca with the wife a couple of years ago and enjoyed it but in no rush to go back there. Vienna though is a possibility.

How about Lisbon, reasonable amount of history and decent weather if you steer away from peak of summer, only a couple of hours flight and served by most of the bucket airlines
