Right guys, a mate of mine decided to buy a new car...

Came across a really nice S14 in Northern Ireland, we are going to see/buy it tomorrow.

We live in Berkshire, here is the plan -

Drive to Stanstead Airport - Covered
Fly from Stanstead to Belfast - Tickets booked
Ferry from Belfast to Liverpool - NO tickets booked

Is it possible to just "turn up" and get on a ferry??

Yes - but normally quite expensive.

What happens if you don't buy the car? silly

Quite looking forward to it!

I am kind of hoping there arent any ferries, night out in Belfast sounds like a good idea!

Dublin - No, far too expensive and full of pissed up English stag parties.

Belfast - Yes, cheaper and full of pissed up Scottish hen parties.

DP, there's several ferry options P&O Irish sea to Troon or Stranraer or Stena line to Cairnryan (and Fleetwood I think). Bookable online or by phone, mixture of conventional and fast Cats on most routes. Alternatively if you're going southwest anyway there's Dublin to Holyhead

If you're doing Larne/Belfast across to Scotland you can certainly turn up although I'd advise getting the numbers for P&O and Stena before you leave and giving them a ring once you get the car.

Belfast Liverpool and a shorter route but there's only one sailing a day and it IS expensive, even prebooked.

Where you picking the car up by the way?

Twaddle! I feel Dublin is now nothing more than a self-parody, pandering to the Ryan-air delivered 'plastic-craic' crowd. Belfast on the other hand has far better bars, some really great restaurants and is IMO a far more friendly and genuine place. Far cheaper too!

I flew to St. Louis many years ago to pick up a car I bought on eBay - quite an adventure. Didn't really plan to leave the car there, but you can always make a holiday out of it!

Forget the logistics. The fact that you are going that far to look at a car is the concern to me...
