so going to see someone aboroad and have some smelly stuff for them that i need to wrap - prob is am doing carry on luggage only - if i gift wrap it and have it with me will they want it unwrapped?

They would most likely prefer to see inside the package, best to wrap it on the other side just to be safe!

Best leave it unwrapped, a number of years ago before security got tight US security in Florida made me unwrap every Christmas present we had bought and packed in our checked luggage in front of my 2 young children, needless to say I was not best pleased. Moral of the story, take paper and sellotape with you and do the wrapping once you have arrived at your destination
