At the moment I'm in Liege and due to wifey's plane being cancelled last night I don't want to spend the weekend out here by myself (I'd come out early to work at the HQ before the party tonight).

So what's going to be the best way to get home? It seems the Eurostar is ok today even though they are supposed to be on strike. Or I could fly from Brussels to Heathrow, but I'm not sure what the flights will be like tomorrow?

Both will set me back around £250 so cost is not a factor, just want to make sure I can actually get back. Any thoughts?

According to the Eurostar website the industrial action won't affect their trains at all.

Just had a look at flights from Dusseldorf (I'm in Liege) and can get some cheap ones back to LGW, but I have no idea what the M25 will be like.

I'm leaning towards the train at the moment.

What's wrong with BA? They are operating flight now and you can get to Heathrow for €286 one way tomorrow or €102 on Sunday.

It's not BA that worries me, it's Brussels airport that is my fear. I think it's still in a bit of a state and with more snow forecast over here for tonight it could be a repeat of last night with the added fun of a stinking hangover!

You can never rely on them - the strike might be cancelled, but how many staff will pull sickies instead...?

(as they have done in the past)

I've been travelling for 17 years, around 30 flights a year, half of which are with BA. I haven't had any problems relatively speaking with them unlike some of the other larger European airlines I've flown with.

Flights are somewhat messed up, but snow has stopped at least for now. Next snow is predicted for Sunday.

But with a hangover I would take the train...

What about Ryanair from Eindhoven or Maastricht? Only fly to Stansted tho, so that could cause an issue I guess!

I've flown with them a lot over the last 15 or so years and have had very little in the way of issues with them (apart from maybe the worst frequent flyers club ever)

Just booked the train, it's going to be the safest route I think.

Best option was to stay the weekend. Could have gone to Brugge, Antwerp, Aaachen etc - lovely places.

Anyone want to offer odds that he was on one of those trains?

Just at home and the wife is firing up dinner for me and my hangover smile

Somehow managed to get on the only train home all day! Was already to stay over night (I still had my flight for Sunday confirmed) so I was quite content to have a night in a nice hotel and shed the hangover.

Whilst on the train they drove straight through Ebbfleet and only told us after, they claimed they didn't have the power to start the train again if they stopped it!
