First of all, this is a bit of an emergency and someone on PH is bound to have good advice to give, so please mods, don't move it to the travel forum!

I have just learnt that my flight (7.05 from Manchester to Franfurt(stopover on the way to Abu Dhabi)with Lufthansa)has been cancelled. I'm not a frequent flyer and I never had a flight cancelled before, what do I do?

Who do I ring to try and sort it out? Airport? Airline? I just have no idea where to start and I am supposed to go meet my girlfriend and her parents, she flew out today...

Please help me before I start panicking!

Thanks!

I've been trying to get through to somebody at the airline, but i'm just on hold for ages... is it worth going to the airport to try and get it sorted from there? I'm in harrogate so it would take me a while to get there and I don't wanna miss a short notice flight...

yes ring the airline at worst they might tell you to call your travel agent who should have an emergency number. But essentially they are required to get you to your destination. The problem you will face is that there have been so many cancelled flights and so many people wanting to travel that seats will be in short supply.

They may ask you if you are flexible in terms of departure airport, eg seats avaiilable from Birmingham to FRA when I looked.

Yeah mods! Do you do that just to be funny?

Looking at the departures table, it's only the flights to frankfurt cancelled for tomorrow...

It won't be practical getting to another airport, as it is all train travel... Been on hold for about 30 minutes with the airline, it's annoying... That has really spoilt Top Gear!

Can a flight showing "cancelled" be put back on?

It worked out OK in the end, I got to the airport at about 1AM, around 20 people were queueing, some since the morning before. By 5AM it was about 200.

I got to the ticket desk at 7.20, and they put me on a different flight (direct with Etihad) leaving at 8.25, so I got there earlier than planned!
