Which would you fly with to NY from London? Both about the same price - no I can't afford Virgin or BA !!

ETA - Price with the above £320, or KLM for £360, or BA for £420...

On a proper note, AA are widely regarded as the worst of a terrible bunch. How about Continental to Newark?

Continental the same price - are they better, and how is Newark based for NY access?

I flew AA to NY in September this year. The British side of the operation was brilliant. No delays, everyone helpful, food was pretty good. Th American side though was a different matter. Went to queue to check in and got told had to do it automatically as no staff at the desks. Fair enough, can cope with that. After doing that (and helping a Chinese chap who spoke no english and I believe I got him on the right flight), you have to get your bags weighed and sent off on their little trip. Queue was about 30 deep on every check in desk. Only had 3 staff members working and when we got to within one person away from checking in, the staff member looked at us and our even longer queue now and said "I'm going home now" and just walked off, leaving no one to serve and a long queue going no where. To the desk to our right were 2 staff members, not checking any bags in, but attempting to sort a glitch on that computer. This would have been fine, if it weren't for the fact only one of them was doing anything and there were 6 desks with no staff they could use, including ours that did work before the previous member went home.
I know nothing about Delta, but I would much rather try them than go back to AA or attempt to get enough money for BA, never had a problem with them.

You get what you pay for - the prices broadly match the service!

KLM intercontinental is not fun. They often fly very old 747-combi planes (half pax, half cargo) without individual entertainment. On US airlines you broadly don't get individual entertainment either.
