Bejesus,

OK,

I need to get from the South West to the North East....approx 8 hours return trip in a car.....Bristol ====> Hull and back....450 miles.

The car isn't an option, health matters mean I simply can't drive.

I've looked at a coach trip.....longer than car duration whilst sat down, and pretty large £££ as well.

A train? longer duration still.....and even more £££ than the coach.

Domestic flights? circa £1600 return....no I didn't add a zero there, that's £1.6k eek (that's for two people though)

I could get the two of us half way around the planet for £1.6k, so what is that all about?

Anybody got any ideas on getting a short haul hop between the cities for less coinage?

Cheers.

Hire a little aeroplane from somewhere like http://www.bristolaeroclub.co.uk/pages/Charges.htm and find an amatuer pilot who needs the hours.

Train to Heathrow, then BA to Newcastle?

Train to Southampton, then flybe or Eastern to Newcatle...?

Train to Cardiff, then Eastern/Flybe to Newcastle.

I hope your not taking the piss, that sounds like a great idea if viable.

Airlines tried? I just googled the internal flights sites.....Kayak is it? It looked pretty much that KLM were the only option on all of them anyways at £1.6K

Taxi? whilst it sounds like a stupid idea it's almost viable given the options available at present...

http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/brs/huy/100111/1... seems to be around 215/250 per person from brissle to humberside.

Teeny planes though smile

Failing that, do any of your mates fancy driving your car for beer tokens?

Or can you organise a PH relay race? biggrin

Sleazyjet do bristol to Newcastle for about 30 notes.
Even on hogmanay it's under 60 quid for the journey up.

Air SouthWest would get you to Leeds from Newquay, Plymouth or Bristol. I think their charges work the same way as Sleazejet. Should be cheap enough to get train from Leeds to Hull

I'm sure one of my old bosses did this for a day trip to france.

Pilot wanted to fly, so they covered the cost of fuel. I can't remember how much it cost but it wasn't a lot.

My BIL has a share in an aircraft (based at Liverpool) and he does this sort of thing quite a lot.

One thing I would say though is that it really only comes into it's own if the trip involves crossing water, or is a very awkward road journey. Bristol to Hull, assuming no traffic nasties, is a pretty straightforward motorway run. The problem with flying shortish distances is that by the time you've got yourself to and from the airport at both ends, and farted around with pre-flight checks, then door to door it may well be quicker to drive.
