Last minute USA (or that region) trip - Advice + Tips?

Hello all,

Hoping to flying off to the states at very short notice with the wife for my birthday - departing on the 14th or 15th of this month, for a total stay of 10-12 nights.

Any tips would be much appreciated, in terms of where is best to go/avoid at this time of year, and who's going to be best to book through.

Was thinking of maybe combining Vegas (again!) with somewhere else, maybe at a stretch even the Caribbean or something similar??? Just a thought, but only just starting to look in to the available options now.
