Evening all and happy new year and all that rubbish

Looking for ideas to take the better half out this year - only really get weekends together to spend any time together - does anybody have any ideas of short break ideas or day trips that I can plan for this year.

Ideal Scenario

1. No Screaming Kids
2. Not "Touristy" - Alton Towers etc a No No as far too obvious
3. Relatively Cheap
4. Located close to Midlands - Based in Leicestershire - but happy to go for a drive!
5. Somewhere Gender Fair! I live in Silverstone but the better half is not to keen on motor racing (fool!)

Couldn't give general interests as we are both quite open minded.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Long walk over Kinder Scout, or around the Castleton area - Mam Tor.

If you need cheap then maybe get a private room in a youth hostel - near a nice food pub smile

Otherwise - Bridlington, Whitby for a long weekend? or out to Norfolk - head to Holkham sands?

Much appreciated - Just looked at Kinder Scout - knew about Derbyshire Dales but never thought about walking them. Into Power Kiting so could be quite fun up there!- could also come in handy for driving the Snake Pass - personal favourite.

Hotels not an issue but more after day trips I think

Well if you live in leicestershire, you arent too far to blat into wales and go see snowdon, anglesey, port merion. As for the peak district, there are loads of things to see and do, just depends what the OH likes to do, as that could have some bearing on the advice givensmile

Were in York at the weekend and found all museums relatively boring - seemed like we were aimlessly wandering around!

We do like walking a bit so can you recommend any cool walks in the region.

I'm also keen to go to anywhere that me be technology parks or museums.

Sorry - little tired when I wrote that.

After something a little more interesting than the standard museum if that makes sense.

Make sure she has sunscreen and a good book and go to Mallory Park on a nice day (quite pretty for those not interested in cars)

I don't know your area, but if you were near Glasgow I would recommend...

Science Museum
Transport Museum
Glasgow on Ice
Glasgow Carling Academy
King Tut's Wah Wah Hut
Open mic/folk nights
Recommended pubs food
The Stand Comedy Club
One of the theatres
Sport Event
Blochairn Car Boot
Scottish Football Museum
Queens Park Farmer's Market
Events at the SECC
Glasgow Climbing Centre
Xscape

Maybe give you some ideas.
