Driving to Monaco in July..advice/recommendations please
Discussion
My girlfriend and I are hatching a cunning plan to drive to the south of France early July. We have 10 days total. We are taking the Z3 for this trip. We will be driving from Glasgow to Brands Hatch on day 1. Staying overnight and and then catching the Eurostar.
Now this is where we would like to hear from you all. We want to give Paris a big miss and head for Monaco by the most entertaining Driving road.
Do you have any preferred routes, places worth a visit, places to avoid etc?
We quite fancy breaking the drive south with an overnight stop (or even two) and then spending the rest of our time in and near Monaco, followed by a sprint back home in jig time.
So its over to you and thanks in advance for the input.

how about detouring to catch classic le mans, 10/11h july, from there , down over millau viaduct, then onto monaco along the coast.return via route napoleon.
or vice versa depending when you set off.

I dont know about the alternative to Paris, last time we went we took the ARs to Orange, then drove 'cross country' through the Gorge Du Verdun (sp) to Eze then Monaco.
The Gorge is quite something, but if you pick this route, you will kind of automatically rule-out the Millau. Which would be shame...
Maybe Millau there - Gorge on return ?? Both MUST be done I assure you....

Thanks Nico, good info.
On a slightly different topic...Fuel, I have heard all sorts of horror stories regarding, not so much the lack of filling stations, but the difficulty in purchasing fuel without a French credit card
No problem at all....just avoid the unmanned pumpsOn a slightly different topic...Fuel, I have heard all sorts of horror stories regarding, not so much the lack of filling stations, but the difficulty in purchasing fuel without a French credit card

Just like over hear though, it's considerably more expensive on the Motorways than more 'rural' garages.
