Hi all,
Hoping to go on a three week driving tour with the missus this spring and wondered about the best route to the Italian lakes through Switzerland.
Given that we will probably be going in May I understand the high passes will still be closed. We plan to enter Switzerland after driving through the Black Forest, but which route we should take from there I don't know. Time's not an issue, so I'd rather hit a pass or two if we can rather than the motorways.
Similarly, coming back, my wife wants to see some of the French Riviera around St Tropez etc. What's the most scenic route back at this time of year?
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers
Jonosmile

PS. Can't wait to take the GP abroad and see what the Italians make of it! It WAS the last car hand-built by Bertone in Italy so they should appreciate it!!!

The route Napoleon is a must, Lake Brienz in Switzerland is beautiful, the Grossglockner in Germany is worth doing, if you do Stelvio the best way is to go up the twisty side and down the sweeping side (towards Italy). There are some stunning roads in Switerland, just a shame they don't like cars there!!

As for St Tropez - she might prefer Cannes, I was a little disappointed with St Tropez, but each to their own. Some of the Top Gear best roads are around that area but my personal favourite was coming down the Gorge du Tarn.

It might be worth posting this in the "roads" forum - I did a similar route about 5 years ago but sadly don't have the route any more.

I'll try and rack my brain for more....
