Looking to book a flight in November to NZ, taking us via the likes of Hong Kong on the way out flying into Auckland and flying out of Christchurch to Fiji on the way back. The halfway stop on the way out is pretty flexible (I dont mind where I visit) but Fiji preferred on the way back just for a few days of chilling out.

I've looked around and can get flights with taxes included for about £1500 but i've seen those without (Round world tickets) for about £5-600. Now I did think £1500 per person was expensive but I'm not sure what to do? Can those who have done this before give some advice?

Main reason for the expense is going to Fiji. There are very few airlines who go there and to New Zealand on a ticket from the UK so they'll charge a premium for doing so. You'd pretty much be looking at a Round the World ticket to get Fiji in unless you fly to NZ then get a return Auckland to Fiji and fly back from NZ. I'm recommend looking at Emirates, Singapore Airlines or Air New Zealand for the best prices combined with decent service. £5-600 might be a bit on the low side though unless there is a stonking deal on the dates you want to fly.

I tend to book my long haul flights (Emirates to AKL usually) with Worldspan Travel, don't know if they can help with your specifics but it can't hurt to ask.

Have just negotiated a party of 50 rugby players for July to Auckland return, Cathay Pacific came out cheapest, appreciate that there is a huge advantage when buying bulk, however I undertand from other who are joing us out there that Cathay are very competitive on normal bookings

Can I suggest ANZ via the Cook Is. instead? I think it's flight-001 which does LHR-LAX-RAR-AUK.

(And I have to say Aitutaki was THE most awesomely beautiful place anywhere ever...albeit a trifle pricey to stay. PM me if you change your mind about Fiji...)

We did SIA in 2008 and I think the return flights came in just shy of £800 each, but that was booking ~Feb for September flights. SIA were fine, but not exceptional...although I think they've now got the A380 on some routes.
