Golf / Spa recommendations For March / April this year

I have recently been looking at the ‘Winter Warmer’ package at St Andrews, which includes 3 rounds of golf including a guaranteed tee time on the Old Course, accommodation and breakfast (plus dinner on 2 of the 3 nights). For a couple with one golfer and one non-golfer this costs £965 in March.

As a golfer, playing at St Andrews is something that I’ve always wanted to do, but I’ve had second thoughts as to whether this would be better done as a lads long weekend away and for the money, my wife and I could do something nicer (and more interesting for her) for similar money.

Can anyone suggest any ‘luxury’ spa hotels (ideally something a bit unusual, rather than a standard hotel) that might also have golf courses nearby. Not UK, but close enough to make 3 or 4 nights viable.

We’d be travelling in March or April.

Goodwood hotel now do good golfing packages , and if the hotel is not 'querky' enough , then stay at the Bailiffs court down the road and pay and play the park course maybe
