I'm looking to plan a few decent driving routes to try out during the better weather...

I have an aa road atlas, which is roughly the right scale/size, but i live near the join of four pages which is a real pita!

Pc based maps/google earth etc are useless as you can only view a relatively small section of the map in detail at any one time...

So I'm looking for something that covers yorkshire and a surrounding areas, one or two sheets worth at A0, roughly 1in to 4miles (as the aa road atlas). They need to have M, A and B roads, would like minor roads on them too if possible... Oh and the moon on a stick too! hehe

It would be nice to have a map on autocad, so i can plot of bits i need once i've planned the route to have with me in the car...

Any ideas?

If I needed to get small scale maps printed out, I used to go to google maps or the OS website, screen grab and cut/paste the sections together until I had a big enough map. A bit time consuming, but effective if you just want a close up of one section to take with you i.e. when you're walking a certain area and don't want to buy the expensive OS maps.

Nowadays, I use MemoryMap, where you can buy different sections of the country at down to 1:25thou.

BTW, I'm not affiliated at all with the company, just love the product.

I've also installed it on my Navman Pin pocketPC which will track me as I go via GPS. (not my pic)

Have you had a look at the Stanfords website? They usually have loads of map options.
