Hi All,

I'm married, got kids, work really hard and all the usual stuff.

I work really long hours but need some time and space for myself, which I don't get because of work, kids, wife, etc.

In the last 18 months I only had 5 days off, which was our family holiday!

Mrs. Ice understands.....that I want a break by myself for 3-4 days. Somewhere where I can relax, enjoy the sun and read, swim, eat nice food and drink whenever I want.

So where do I go?

I went to the Isle of Wight to a youth hostel, and went cycling for a few days on my own, just to get away from everything...

I don't think it has to be that far away.

Much as I understand your need for space away from work and the kids; why are you going on your own?

Surely it'd be better to go somewhere nice with your OH - just the two of you?

I'd also say Go with the Mrs............ why put up with the drudge of long hours and family life if you can't escape together and remember why you married each other.........

Good luck and have fun biggrin

I think going with Mrs. Ice would be the perfect solution but kids-schools and no family will make it impossible.....I might end up going another 18 months with 5 days off.

Why not take 1 kid away on your own for a couple of days, then the other one(s). You will have some quality time with them, they will love it and you will find it much more relaxing than having 2 or more kids at a time - no fights to break up, no competing for attention etc, etc. It could be something really simple like camping or staying in a cheap B&B and going for a walk on the beach.

It's an easy way to earn mega brownie points and get to know your kids better.

Bluebardge,

that is a great idea ! although the sun, sand and sea would have been good.

I'm going to seriously consider this.

Good man! I've had a few nights away with my boys (3 of them) individually and it is amazing how much more civilised kids are when they don't have to compete for attention. Plus they're often quite happy to do stuff you want to do just so they spend time with Dad (and the occasional ice cream/hot dog keeps them going when their attention is waning).

Get flight to Dubai and stay in a nice hotel, go dune bashing and spend the rest of the time sat by the pool reading a book in the sun.

Excellent place for a relaxing holiday if you ask me. Also wait till August then you can pretty much guarantee 40-50 degrees for warmth.

Selfish but maybe that's what you need.
