We are hoping to spend 5 or 6 days in Sicily in April and wanted some suggestions as to where to stay and what to do.

The purpose of the trip is rest and relaxation, but we also want to see some of the key tourist sites too.

We are looking and spending a few days at Verdura Golf resort and Spa, which will provide the rest and relaxation and also easy access to sites on the south or west coast, but we also want to spend a few days on the north or east of the island to take in the historical sites, Mt Etna etc.

Any suggestions, gratefully received!

Haven't been for a few years, but Taomina was the hub for sites on the East cost...

Taormina is a must visit it’s a beautiful place, the road running up to it is one of the best and scariest I have ever been on. Whilst you are there visit the amphitheatre it has some stunning views over the coast line and across to Mount Etna. Palermo is worth a visit but is very busy.

I have family who live in Messina which I couldn’t really recommend as there’s not much to see or do there but is worth a visit if you’re passing.

Drove to Sicily a couple of years ago, and stayed in the Atahotel Capotaormina. Hotel was really nice with it's own private beach. They also had a free shuttle bus into Taormina. Not far for a drive up Etna as well. Don't forget to drive the Targa Florio if you get a chance, fantastic route!

If you are interested, the rest of the photos I took in Sicily are here, scroll along just over half way along the top, Sicily stars at the pic looking down on a small boat, finishes at the ferry in Paloma.

BTW, Corleone is a dump if you were thinking of visiting!
