£2k and approx 3weeks... where to go travelling?
Discussion
I went to NZ last year and didn't have a budget, this time i am going to have to have one
I am looking for a trip of 3 weeks minimum, to be taken any time this year. I will be on my own, and have a budget of £2k. It needs to be somewhere that is easy and fun to travel around, and not Europe. It also needs to have amazing scenery so i can spend 3 weeks taking a lot of photos.
Over the last few years these are the trips i've taken (just to give you an idea of what i have already done):
- Canada (Toronto, Niagara, Victoria, Vancouver, Whistler)
- NYC
- Boston
- NZ (south island) + Australia (only Melbourne and Sydney for a few days each)
If you have any ideas, i'd like to hear them!
Thanks

Then off to India and pakistan later in the year. Can't wait. pakistan is fantastic and I hear India is too.
China. My brother has just done 3 weeks there. Started in Beijing and finished in Hong Kong and went via the Great Wall, Shanghai, the Long Jie terraces and the Terracotta Army place. the whole thing was booked so travel and accomodation were sorted before and there was a group of about 10 people together. I'll find out what company it was booked through.
China is a no for me
I would love to do south america, i'm just not sure i'm brave/adventurous enough to do it on my own!
The USA and national parks (eg. Yosemite, Zion, Yellowstone, etc...) would be the easy option, but i'm not sure it's really exciting enough!
Thailand/Vietnam, etc... are a possibility, but see above for the brave/adventurous bit!

You don't need to be that brave for Thailand and Vietnam. Plenty of westerners travelling there and it is easy enough to get around, book hostels, hire motorbikes etc. You just need to be wary for dodgy dealers as there are plenty of them around the region, but of course there are many more great locals to meet along the way

Why not China?

Anyway the company my brother used is http://www.intrepidtravel.com/ they do trips all over the world at various lengths and prices.
SA is a good shout too. Brilliant weather for a lot of the year too
China is pretty hardcore if you travel independently. I landed at 6am in Beijing with nothing but a night in a hostel booked - great trip but not for the faint-hearted
Companies like Intrepid or Gap Adventures do have some great organised trips in China. You could easily do Beijing to HK in 3 weeks and see some amazing places on the way!

I can recommend Patagonia - plenty of other tourists so not very "difficult" for independent travellers. Torres del Paine - amazing scenery and fantastic trekking. Easy to hook up with other tourists on the walking trails. Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
