Airplane lavatories are among the few unisex bathrooms most people encounter, but that's about to change for some air travelers.

The Japanese airline All Nippon Airways will introduce women-only lavatories on its international routes starting Monday.

The move comes in response to "numerous requests from passengers for this service," the company said in a statement.

Many women called for the airline to give them their own lavatories in a 2007 survey of customers, said ANA spokesman Justin C. Massey.

"They didn't list any specific complaints. ... It was just more a matter of general preference," Massey added.

One women-only lavatory will be designated in the rear section of the passenger cabin and will display a pink version of the universal sign for a ladies' room as a way to let male travelers know to look for another option. Women can still use any other lavatory.
Some interesting comments on there too - personally I believe this is utterly sexist. It would be great if there was a men only toilet, you'd never have to queue so long.

Why do women take such an utterly long time on planes?!

Not that it bothers me much but this is defintely sexist, imagine if the roles were reversed, men with a dedicated toilet but still able to use any other toilet on the plane.

I can understand the disgust of some women if they enter the toilet and someone (probably a man) has pissed all over the seat/floor/walls/sink but still the policy is wrong, if there is one dedicated womens toilet there should be one dedicated mens toilet, simple as that.

Why don't they make one toilet women only and another men only? All the rest remain unisex. Everyone's happy.

Let them have as many bogs as they want. Facts are women piss more and have less control of their bladders. Plus, they have additional hygene requirements and I for one prefer not seeing those specialist bins or any other evidence of vampires' teabags or beach whistles.
