Where is better to stay for a couple of days Hong Kong Island or Kowloon I appreciate either is only a ferry away.

My preference was to stay Kowloon side on the waterfront with a view of HK Island. Its quite a stunning view at night.

We stayed Island. But have stayed Kowloon before.

Pays your money and take your pick, Star ferry and metro mean you can bounce back and forward easy enough.

Stayed last Sun-Thur on the Island (Harbour Grand hotel) stunning views from any of the waterfront hotels really, decent bars in Wan Chai (island) better shopping and the like in Kowloon, depends what you're into/why you're there. Whatever you decide the underground is brilliant so everywhere is just minutes away - have a nice trip. PS if you're tempted to get the ferry to Macau don't expect too much, we thought it was a complete sthole. It makes more money than Vegas these days but its a far, far cry from the Vegas experience

Tsim sha tsui is probably more interesting for tourists, although the rest of kowloon isn't so good. Only 5 mins by MTR to central. Ferry is worth doing as it costs (virtually) nothing.

HK island if nightlife is important if not just go for the hotel you fancy. Travel back and forth in daytime is easy and cheaper than early hours of the morning.

The TST area of Kowloon is the pick for me.
Plenty going on and easy enough to get around the HK Island, the waterfront and to get out to more remote (relatively) parts of Hong Kong like Lantau Island.

YMCA - i know but its brilliant, fantastic value for money, and apart from the bible shop at the entrance looks and feels exactly like a normal hotel.

Its got fantastic views over the harbour, is in a good area and easy to get to. Google it.

Causeway bay is similar on the HK side, only it has more expensive shops. Your mrs will like it there.

Personally i avoid Mong kok like the plague.

Causeway Bay would be a nice area to stay. When travelling my gf and I stayed at Hotel Ibis, which was on the Island. It was very cheap (for HK) and nice and clean. Right next to the underground too.
