Driving from Zagreb to Budapest this weekend, can anyone recommend good places to visit? It may be raining one day so some indoor activities would be good too. Only two days there so not a lot of time!

Thanks!

If it's raining go to the Nagycsarnok (big indoor market hall), the Opera, Parliament, or any of the large number of good museums (my fave is the Military museum ), or the Dreher brewery, and for a left field choice, the Gellert or Szechenyi spa baths - hot indoor and outdoor baths.

If it ain't precipitating, do the Chain Bridge, boat trip up/down the Danube, Statue park, Castle hill and the views from the Fisherman's bastion, Heroes square, shopping along Vaci ut, etc.

Loads to see and do, some great restuarants and bars, used to have an office there and love it.

Unfortunately it rained a lot here today, i`m not sure how it will be tomorrow, but i think Sunday may be slightly better but check.
As far as things to do if it is raining, then like another poster mentioned there are plenty of museums, galleries and that sort of thing but depends on where your interests lie.
I can recommend some good bars and restaurants though, depending on what you like!

I am taking my Mrs there in August, neither of us have ever been, so any further info very welcome.

We are staying at the Corinthian hotel (any good?)

Any good restaurant recommendations?

cheers all....

Hi, yes, now I've been I can tell you a few places to go... I can't remember the names but I'll go look up my receipts tonight and tell you smile

If you plan to drive, get a satnav, lots of road works going on and bridges blocked so you need it to get alternative routes quickly.

It's a great city though!

Have you been yet? I wondered how it was? I was considering a weekend there staying at the Corinthian.

PH seems to have mixed reports on the city, but most of the negative comments seem to be from people looking for a night out in bars and clubs, whereas my gf and I will just be doing the touristy thing.

Definitely go up the big Hill (You can't miss it!) Be warned I went when there was snow and the routes up the side were pretty lethal, take the road if it's like that wink

edit, this is the place:

We also went to the statue park, which is out of town on a short bus ride and has all the old soviet statues in it, you can imagine you're in Goldeneye lol

Yeah, last weekend. It was great. Corinthian is fantastic but it did have scaffolding all over the front (if that's an issue).

If you're going with the Mrs, you'll love it, cant comment if it's a clubber's paradise.

The house of terror was very interesting i thought , the Zoo is ok , needs a bloody good clean !

Yeah up the hill is pretty impressive views , with a really nice coffee shop to stop at just at the back of castle to dry off { always seemed to rain the 4 days i was there }

Restuarnts - best one was up beside the D and G store , cant remember the name but there is loads up that end .

Me and the Girlfriend stayed at the K+K opera hotel which is right behind the opera house , really nice hotel .

We was there just before christmas and did the whole winter market bit - sitting outside getting caned on cheap mulled wine - lovely !

Rob, invest in a copy of this book. It's a local's insight into the city. http://www.amazon.com/Budapest-Critical-Guide-Andr...
