Driving down to Oz en Oisans next week - halfway-ish stop?

Hullo,

I'm driving down for a spot of skiiing in Oz-en-Oisans next week, not far from Grenoble. I plan to stop overnight somewhere halfway (or 2/3) in order to drive into the alps in daylight, and give myself time to stop here and there if the mood takes me.

Google Maps shows a route past Reims, Dijon, Lyon etc, here.

I was wondering if anyone has some recommendations for picturesque places to stay, with decent-but-good-value accomodation,somewhere on or near the route?

Beaune is one of the most popular stops on the drive down from Paris to the Med. Very pretty town.
