Keen to pop over on the Eurotunnel to Calais for the day. Is it worth it (financially) for things like wine and spirits anymore? Are the French hypermarkets a better bet than Tesco/Majestic etc?

Wouldn't mind a decent steak frites for lunch whilst there - recommendations of local towns to get one?

Also would like to go to some decent delis/fromageries - again, recommendations?

Thanks!

It's barely worth it anymore, thanks to the global problem Winky's disastrous handling of the economy and resultant crash of the pound.

Of course, it's still an excellent but expensive day out.

Plenty of suggestions in here if you search for them. St Omer being a favourite.

The exchange rate is like 1.1 euros to the £ at the moment ...

I don't see much point tbh, any gains you make will be short lived when you have to pay for petrol and the ticket there and back.
