Day trip to Calais
Discussion
Calais is a s
t hole. Avoid. Avoid any thought of duty free booze cruising too - it's just not worth it financially anymore. The cheap wine you may still come across is usually terrible.
Brugge. Take some grub - eating out is cripplingly expensive. Must do the canal trip.
Le Touquet. Pretty town and nice beach especially south of the town
Bolougne. Nice old town with good restaurants inside the city walls
Lille. Another nice old town. Good shopping and food.
If you go west out of Calias then take the coast road through Sangatte and Wissant to Cap Griz Nez rather than thrash down the A16.
My choice for a day out in Euroland? Brugge. Park at the railway station - easy to find and very cheap all day and walk in.
