Day trip to Calais

So when we get off the Eurostar at the French end, what do we do? I've heard Calais is a bbit of a dive so where is in easy driving distance that's worth seeing?

Boulogne is nice - certainly nicer than Calais.

BTW how do you get a car on Eurostar?

Asuming you're on eurotunnel not the Eurostar, I'd drive either inland to St Omer or down the coast to somewhere like Le Treport or Le Touquet

40 K brings you to Agincourt, great museum, also Desvres it a quaint village about 30k, The Agricole bar/restaurant is brilliant for a rustic lunch.

Are you taking the car? If so you may have time to pop down to Rouen and see the old F1 bits that are left, Bolongue (or however you spell it) is worth a visit as are a couple of the small seaside towns round that way.

Both just over an hour in the car from Calais

Calais is a st hole. Avoid. Avoid any thought of duty free booze cruising too - it's just not worth it financially anymore. The cheap wine you may still come across is usually terrible.

Brugge. Take some grub - eating out is cripplingly expensive. Must do the canal trip.

Le Touquet. Pretty town and nice beach especially south of the town

Bolougne. Nice old town with good restaurants inside the city walls

Lille. Another nice old town. Good shopping and food.

If you go west out of Calias then take the coast road through Sangatte and Wissant to Cap Griz Nez rather than thrash down the A16.

My choice for a day out in Euroland? Brugge. Park at the railway station - easy to find and very cheap all day and walk in.
