Newquay, Lads weekend, August - Where to go/stay etc.?
Discussion
A group of us are off to Newquay in August for a lads weekend away. We're quite sensible attached men between 25 and 45 so its not going to consist totally of drunken stupidness and perving over girls.
Where is a good place to camp that's close to the town?
What are the best night spots?
Is it really full of chavs?

I would give you some advice on where to go etc. as I went last year and I'm going again this summer. However my recollection is piss poor due to the beer, as a student it was great fun and there was zero trouble.
There was one place where they were pretty much doing coke off the bar which I wandered in to which was a little dodgy but I have no idea what it was called or where it was.
Just be prepared for it to be full of fun loving piss heads.

I went on a stag do 2-3 years ago.
It's full of pissed up chavs. The B&B we stayed in was terrifying in so much as it looked like something from shameless (clean though). We got back abount 2am to find a karoke night in full swing, 2 of the punter still had pints the following morning at breakfast (hadn't moved) the sausages bent when you stuck a fork in them and it was the worst bacon I'd ever tasted. We were in a dorm rather than a room (6 shared per room) and there were signes everywhere about not setting off fire extinguisers.
We went for a meal one night (actually a lovely place) and the waitress was I'd not bring your type of stag do to Newquay.
We were mid 30's.
Had a good time though.

I know some people who have stayed here:

Apparently they have a bus that is 'on call' to drop you off and pick you up from town...

I'm from Kernow. Properly out the arse of anywhere. You really don't want to go to Newquay, it is a horrible northern chav town like Whitley Bay. If you are going to go to Newquay, you may as well just go to your closest scummy resort.
I'd spend a night in St Merryn (which is near some cracking beaches) on the North Coast, has a load of campsites and there are a couple of good pubs. Red Lion in St Merryn and the Harlyn Inn which will be good carnage. It will be cool.
If you want some "proper" Cornish action, I reckon a night out on the lash in Camborne will sort you out. Contrary to the descriptions, it is not a dump, but a historic place with interesting architecture and history. There will probably be some mad hillbilly lock ins, fighting and proper Cornish Wildlife (like birds getting their tits out)
Go and have a poke around Gwennap Consols Mine (near United Downs-signposted) and find some crystals and chuck rocks down some mineshafts, whilst comparing hangovers.
Failing that, Porthtowan will be swinging. Perranporth will be also. Camp out in the dunes. There is a very nice spot called "gravel hill" where there are some mad caves and a lily containing lake, right on the beach at the very north of Perran Sands.
The First and Last at Sennen has a place where you can pitch a tent and not have to drive after a skinful and a stupid-o-clock lock in where hillbillies and "english" mix with some good scenery.
I don't rate St Ives at all. Insipid, expensive and probably suited more to scenery appreciating quaintness seekers.
Newquay won't give you any sort of sense about Cornwall.
Gedon!

I've stayed at a site called Trencreek holiday park which is walkable to Newquay centre - but I can't remember if they allow groups which can be a problem, and yes, Newquay isn't that pleasant a place!
There's a small beach next to some cliffs with about 200 death defying stairs going down to it. It was amazing and at one point we were the only people on the beach.
This is during the summer.
Naturally we drew a 100 penis in the sand and took pics from the top of the cliff..... Give me something good, and I'll draw a penis on it.

Diggory's Beach near the headland is the one which is always empty. That has no steps!
If your after a good laugh and a good atmosphere do an Butlins Adult Weekend, I thought it was going to be my worse nightmare when I was going there on a Stag Do but it was great fun, see Soul to Soul live loads of people in fancy dress having a laugh. We went to Minehead would go again as well.
