With camera I hasten to add!!

Just back from 10 nights in 3 National parks in India, and with 17 different tigers spotted in 21 sightings, the best such trip we've had. 12 of our tigers were seen in a recently 'promoted to park' status reserve, Taboda, SW of Nagpur, and included 4 14 month cubs playing in a waterhole, and Mum walking past our jeep totally ignoring us but allowing us to admire her in all her glory. Pench failed to show us any tigers, tho' a group in the morning of the day we arrived saw a big male in a lake, while Kanha made up the other 5 tigers we saw, tho' 2 of those were from elephant, which I don't find quite as 'natural' as by chance or tracked sightings.

Thoroghly recommend Taboda - we were the only Europeans in the park and the number of jeeps was very small except at the weekend when 'day trippers' arrived. No elephant 'service', just tracking and lucky encounters. Primarily a bamboo forest so not as pretty as Pench, but seemingly excellent for tigers from our experience.

Summer is about a month early in Central India this year, so it's hotter than usual at this time of year and drier, which is bad for the tigers and their prey and also for farmers - a lot of the second crops aren't coming thru. Everyone's hoping the rains are good cos they've only had 800mm of rain last year when they hope for 1500mm.

Garage Manager: You must have shot an awful lot of tigers, sir.
Charlie Croker: Yes, I used a machine gun.
