Afternoon all,

Me and a mate are planning a bit of a euro trip after the usual LeMans trip this year, we're going down on the tuesday morning ferry before LeMans and leaving Monday lunchtime-ish as per the last 2 years. We're thinking though, seeing as we're in Europe, and its both our 21st birthday years, I've got a more suitable car, and we both fancy dicking about before becoming sensible young adults (my last year at uni - will all be done before the trip though so no worries) we'll make it a once in a lifetime(ish) trip and see the sights.

'The Sights' is a very Pistonheads take on things however;

  • LeMans - basically a week, as per.
  • Paris - Not essential, but I'd like to see it if possible
  • Nurburgring - its kind of on the way back (bear with me here) if...
  • Munich - BMW museum and I've never been to germany
  • Amsterdam - for a 21st weekend sort of deal, hopefully with a day to recover and see the sights in amsterdam
Nowthen, I'm just wondering about timescales, and what to actually do. I've roughly guess-timated with google maps it's going to be around 2,500 miles, though we're splitting fuel costs and driving subject to insurance. We'll have a tent from LeMans, and don't really mind camping most of the trip. Amsterdam is the only "hotel only" I think.

So, Any idea what sort of mileage/day we could be looking at? We've never planned a trip like this before, and hoping to do the euro bit after LeMans in about a week, week and a half. Ferry to france is sorted, and I imagine we'll get the hull ferry back from Amsterdam.

Also - any ideas on the route, as in places to stop overnight etc, things to see off the beaten track et-cetera? The route will be England-LeMans-(Paris?)-Munich-Nurburgring-Amsterdam, how does that sound?

I'd be grateful for any and all advice, its kind of dawning on me how big this may turn out to be! Open to route suggestions also, Paris is the only non-key destination.

Thanks in advance smile

(a slightly worried) Mr.Jimbo

IMO I'd skip Paris, it seems the odd one out on your destination list.

It's easy to pop back there for some over-priced romantic weekend at a later point with an OH - it's not somewhere I'd bother going on your trip.

If you do go to Paris don't park your car on the street or if you must, leave the handbrake off! Parisien parking is an art form that involves shunting cars until the space is big enough for your 15 year old Saxo. And as for the Place De La Concorde = a huge roundabout with no lane markings and no apparent rules. Sort of like a catfight in cars!

Priority a droit (sp) basically cars coming onto the roundabout have right of way !!!

For Munich dont forget the deutsches museum as well. If in Munich you could even get a days hooning around in teh Alps (Innesbruk is about 1 hour on A8)

all your legs are possible but would perhaps suggest Les Mans - Munich - Ring - Hamsterjam - Home as a better route.

exactly, everyone can get on and no one can get off! If you are on the inside it can take several orbits!

Might ditch paris then, its the closest one so can go back (probably as you advise with a future Mrs.Jimbo not best mate wink ), keep this a more car-centric holiday biggrin

plus, as you mention it, I don't really fancy parking the BMW in paris, I've "experienced" french parking hehe
