Anyone been to New Delhi?
Discussion
Lived there for several years.
Car or train to Agra, go see the fort & Taj Mahal. Then go over to see Fatepuh Sikri. Leave early Saturday, it's a 3hr drive. Stay Saturday night, come back Sunday afternoon.
Oops just noticed you said you only have separate sunday & Saturday free. Still go to Agra & see the Taj, skip Fatepuh one weekend. Do Delhi Fort, Qatab Minar & Old Delhi on the other weekend. If you have time do Gandhi's house.
Don't drink more than 2 bottles of Kingfisher or Black Label. That way you won;t end up with the headache from hell the next morning!

Cheers for the recommendations GTO3ROB, the Taj was a given, good to know about the others though!

Also worth seeing Humayun's tomb in Delhi - a bit like a miniature Taj Mahal. Quieter, set in nice gardens too.Car or train to Agra, go see the fort & Taj Mahal. Then go over to see Fatepuh Sikri. Leave early Saturday, it's a 3hr drive. Stay Saturday night, come back Sunday afternoon.

Excellent, the Bukhara serves an item called Maa ki daal (spelling???) that's supposed to be the best anywhere in the world, eaten together with some nan bread. That's it, you need no other food ..... only a Beer to lubricate.
+1 excellent restaurant.I've never found a daal like it anywhere else! Was the standard haunt when we had visitors in the office.
TK's in the Hyatt ain't bad either, used to be open buffet, with as much sparkling plonk as you could drink Sunday lunchtimes!

Apparently my car for the week is a Merc S-Class - can't help thinking it might stand out a litle...

Pahar ganj and connaught square are always popular with tourists...Get on the metrorail and take a tour around the city
S-class mercs are fairly common there, seen about 5 of them parked outside the airport...Theres probably more rich people there than in London right now
I was in Delhi last week and was certainly impressed...there is a lot of building work and infrastructure development goin on
Id love to spend a week or so exploring the capital but always get dragged off to Punjab as soon as the plane touches down
Theres a great feeling of optimism in India now, a real sense of boom and growth and its being fuelled by real money unlike some other economies around the world
Check it out, have fun then come back and share your experiences

Fort? Check.
Taj Mahal? Check.
Humayun's Tomb? Check.
Maa ki daal? Check.
Heading back tomorrow morning.
Very impressed - it's definitely a city on the verge of a massive transformation. I still stuck out like a sore thumb in the white S-Class, but there were a few nice cars about. Seeing an SLK55 AMG driving along a street full of tuk-tuks was quite funny - it looked like a bloody spaceship in that context.
The people are the friendliest, most polite i've ever met.
The driving is as bonkers as i'd heard.
The food is incredible.
Also, to quote Robin Williams:
"It's hot! Damn hot! Real hot! Hottest things is my shorts. I could cook things in it. A little crotch pot cooking." Well, tell me what it feels like. "Fool, it's hot! I told you again! Were you born on the sun? It's damn hot! It's so damn hot, I saw little guys, their orange robes burst into flames. It's that hot! Do you know what I'm talking about?" What do you think it's going to be like tonight? "It's gonna be hot and wet! That's nice if you're with a lady, but ain't no good if you're in the jungle!"
Ahem, but no really - 43*C. Very hot.
