I am thinking about setting up a 5 day holiday or so with some friends to take in the sites, experience a bit of dutch laidbackness and sample the clubbing out there. I know Amsterdam is the usual tourist spot, but we have done it before and are aware that the real clubbing nightlife capital is Rotterdam so we want to try that.

So, anyone been and got any experiences? What is it like just to spend a bit of time there? We don't really care about seeing loads of sights and having stuff to do everyday because we will just be taking it easy during the day, maybe trying out a few coffee shops, wandering around just getting a feel for the place, and then in the evenings/nights going off to experience the legendary dutch nightlife.

So yeah, please tell me what there is to know smile

Can't speak much about Rotterdam, only flown into the airport and been through the train station.

However, I would say if your mind isn't totally set on Rotterdam: Groningen. Try and go when the University is still in term.

Rotterdams a dump..ok if your a tanker spotter, want a great night out, and in my view far saucier than Amsterdam and not full of English doped up stags try Hamburg better beer and ladies of the night if that's your thing .

Nightlife is good but underground, also more 'hardcore docker' than 'hippy tripper' as in t'dam.
Try some of the DJ websites

Try Utrecht if your after something a bit different from Amsterdam, Rotterdam is really nothing special.
