Honeymooning...
Discussion
Hi
I'm getting married in September and haven't booked our honeymoon yet, and struggling to think of somewhere suitable.
Looking for somewhere warm/hot, with a combination of beach/poolside but also lots to do - I am happy in the sun with a book for a few days, but my fiance gets bored very quickly!
He doesn't dive so traditional beachy resorts with Scuba diving are no good unfortunately.
Can anybody make any suggestions?
Previous holidays included the US (New York & Vegas) which he loved, and Oman (Muscat + several excursions to the desert/dolphins etc. where we got engaged) at the Chedi which he also loved.
Thank you !

I'm in the same boat, getting married September 25th. October isn't the easiest time of year weather wise.
Africa and Asia are out as we've been to both too many times over the years, more a sign of age than being supremely well travelled, so at the mo thinking Sri Lanka, but weather could be dodgy, Brazil, or the Andeman Islands.
Would be interested to see where you decide.

That's what we're finding (weather-wise) and contemplating delaying the honeymoon for a while, although I'm keen to go while being Mrs *** is still new and exciting!
We went to Morocco last year for our holiday (Marrakech and Essouira) so that's out (forgot to put that on the list in my first thread doh!)

We went to Zanzibar in an all-inclusive Mapenzi Beach resort. We did a Blue safari trip which was a sail boat ride to a sandy knoll where you could swim, a tour round some little islands and dinner on one of them with fresh lobster and local fruit. We also did Stonetown and Prison Island with all the giant tortoises, another day we did the Jozani Forest with the monkeys. Most of the couples on honeymoon there did a split with a safari the first week which we wish we'd done as they got to see the gnu migration.
Alternatively, try Kerala in Southern India which has the benefit of being cheap in terms of expenses. There are loads of trips and a chance to spend a night on a rice boat, the cities, the mountains and Neyyar Dam and overall, it's great though longer journeys on the bad roads are not as good an idea as they first sound. Not sure about the weather in October though. The people who I know who have done Sri Lanka were far less impressed.

We went to SA and toured round, Cape Town then up to the Winelands, then a Safari then over to Rourkes Drift and the Zulu battlefields before ending up in the Mountains doing a foody couple of days.
Plenty going on and plenty of time by the sea or sitting by the pool in the sun.
Weather was pretty good but that was later on (December)

And I'm Sept 4th
Oz/Bali is a nono (i've already spent a few months in Oz so it wouldn't feel special) but I'm loving the idea of Zanzibar - off to research it now! Who did you book through and what time of year did you go?
We booked with Kuoni through Thomas Cook and we honeymooned from 12th October for 2 weeks. I will tell you that it is full of poor people, has lots of hawkers on the beach who can be a nuisance but aren't allowed onto the resort, the same can be said of the persistent hawkers who follow you in Stonetown too. The beach, certainly where we were was chocka full of sea urchins and so the sea was best enjoyed with the tide in and walking out to the edge of the reef part meant an inevitable "guide". Weather fabulous though bar some downpors which never lasted that long. Expeditions tend to be expensive and we actually hired a minibus (cheap) and went on our own to Jozani Forest and were almost the only people there. The Blue Safari expedition was great though.

The flight to Nairobi connects to a prop aircraft which flies past Kilimanjaro. I confess the worst part of the holiday was getting up at 4am on the night they put on drumming as entertainment. The wait at Nairobi was also quite long.
Finally, take US dollars only, it's all you'll need.

We went on our honeymoon over Sept/Oct last year and had all the same weather-based quandries. We ended up doing San Francisco, Yosemite and Vegas. Vegas is 'warm' so low twenties and San Fran and Yosemite were a little cooler but still t-shirt weather.

That's an option we'd been considering - hiring a Corvette in San Fran and driving across to Vegas and back to LA, and up the coast to SF again - sounds like the weather is fairly cool then though... we've been to Vegas before, and I've been to SF but loved it and would go again as I've only been with work before.
We had a convetible Chrysler Sebring. It was an awful car but the top came off and driving through the desert with the top down was one of the best experiences of my life (despite the car). In a 'vette it would be simply awesome!
EDIT - Driving down the Pacific Highway 1 would also be amazing
