Could any mods reading this please leave it here for a few hours so I can try and guage opinion in this busy sub-forum rather than the less used Holidays & Travel?

Going to Berlin in a couple of weeks with work. Office manager has booked tickets on EasyJet (I know...) and given me the pre-printed boarding passes.

Problem is she has put my first name down as Steve rather then Stephen as is stated on my passport. Understandable as she's only ever known me as Steve.

Anyone had this before and is it likely to cause an issue at security or the gate?

Probably a load of hassle and about £40 to get it changed so would rather leave it is possible but am wondering whether to err on the side of caution - especially on the way back in Germany where they may not know that Steve is commonly short for Stephen.

Thoughts appreciated.

None. I never use my first name (as on my passport) on boarding/check in details and they never question it.

My wife booked some tickets with Continental and they made a mistake in the spelling of her name - it did cause a big kufuffle and she had to cancel the tickets and start the process again as she was advised by the airline that there was a large chance of being denied boarding. It is not just the airline you need to worry about, it is airport security.

I would be more worried about the Brits over the Germans education.

TBH as long as the initial matches, they won't care.

Get it sorted.

I was refused a flight at 5am in the morning at Bristol to Scotland, simply because when the lady on the phone (when amending the ticket details) had spelt my name, she'd spelt it Boulton as opposed to Bolton.

The fact that the was no Neil Boulton at 5 minutes to boarding, at 5am in the morning, but there was a very upset and indignant Neil Bolton of exactly the same age, was not, apparantly, enough to persuade neither the check-in staff, nor the managers who came out to see what all the fuss was about.

I never got on the flight.

I now spell my name out all the time over the phone, and always double check tickets etc...

Definitely pay the extra to correct the name. I have had instance of problems at security due to mismatch on documents. It's likely that you'll get away with it however how will you feel if you're standing there and have a jobsworth at either check-in or security who will not budge on the issue? Pay the money....(it's not a lot to be 100% sure).

Germany is one of the few places in Europe I've never been to, don't speak a word of the language as my school thought Latin might be more useful instead and and consequently have no idea about how commonly known English names might be.

Seems to be quite a varied opinion on the boarding card thing too, thanks for all the replies so far.

Get it sorted.

I had Alex on my ticket instead of Alexander as per passport. Took some time at the self check in desk with the woman but did sort it. Not worth the hassle.

It's work travel. Get the company to sort it.

Fair point jyb. If the cost of changing is on someone else then get them to do it.

But I can promise you, you will not get refused with a difference like this.

They are of the opinion that it will be fine and doesn't need changing.

However, it won't be them stuck at an airport if I get a jobsworth inspecting my documents so I was wondering whether it was worth pushing the issue and making them change it - hence asking here.

Had the same a couple of years ago with EJ. Booked as Tony and not Anthony as per my passport, they accepted it, but pointed out that they would be in their rights to charge me/refuse me and to make sure that in future I did it correctly.

I have had the same problem in the past with cheques payable to T.xxxx instead of A.xxxx as it says on my cheque book

I concur.

It depends on the airline usually. Some let you do it for free, some can charge a £100.00 admin fee as we've found out in the past. Either way, it's not a cost that you should stand.

No airline will let you on the plane unless your ticket matches your passport on Christian and Surname. Middle names, titles etc are all fine to be wrong, but your first and surname MUST be the same as your passport.
This may have been mentioned, but have you thought of calling Easyjet and asking what they say?
