Anyone in North Wiltshire or South Gloucestershire could do a lot worse than take the family for a walk in North Meadow, Cricklade. This is the best site in the UK of the very rare flower, Snake's Head Fritillary, 75% of the UK population is here.

They only bloom for a few weeks and they'll be gone by the end of the month. There is a particularly good bloom this year, many think that's because of the cold winter.

Allow an hour or two for a walk round the whole meadow. There is the infant River Thames on one side of the meadow and the River Churn on the other, lots of other plants/wildlife/birds.

Local amenities in Cricklade, muddy dogs and boots are nomally welcome.

......and it's free dudes!

We were in the Batsford Arboretum yesterday and saw these flowers there too. They're amazing!

And I was at Batemans ( http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-batemans) on Sunday and they've got loads of them there too.

So not that rare then. Nice flowers though
