Hertz cancels one way hire car fees.
Discussion
Despite airports opening and people having trouble rebooking flights there will still be many people trying to travel overland in Europe.
Hope this info helps.

Hertz is waiving its international one-way drop off charge for customers who drive Hertz cars back to the cars' country of registration, or in the direction of that country. A dedicated Hertz Transfer Desk website www.hertz-transfer.eu/ provides real-time availability of foreign cars by country, to help people identify rental vehicles in the right locations to get them home, along with a customer services contact number. New vehicles are frequently being added to this site so please check it on a regular basis. Hertz is also implementing the following initiatives:
HTH- 100% refund on prepaid rates if customers cancel online or by telephone at any point prior to the pick-up date, if their travel has been affected by the volcanic ash disruption (up to 27th April)
- Reduced cancellation fee for prepaid customers who do not show up to collect their car without prior cancellation
- Extending rentals for customers with disrupted departures
- Honouring reservations for people with delayed arrivals
- We are also adding fleet and extra staffing to cope with the current situation at key locations
- For one ways where the car is driven outside of its country of registration, the rates have not been increased for one way fee drop off charges
- Hertz is providing regular updates to its customers via its Twitter (http://twitter.com/HertzOffersUK) and Facebook sites (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hertz/91062694654?ref=ts).
- The Facebook page is planned to feature a section to help customers share trips by car pooling.

Nice of them, but not much help if you're driving from Rome to Calais and dumping the car. To be honest I think 1,000 Euros isn't that overpriced when you consider they need to employ someone to bring the car back to its source country/city (1,000 is a number I've heard mentioned by customers on various news channels)Targarama said:

Galaxy in Nice needs to come back to UK, volunteers??
I saw that and called some of our chaps who're heading to Nice as we speak. However, they've already planned on getting the train (overnight, with a bunk) to Paris where someone will meet them and bring them home. It's also a little safer as they, so far, haven't slept in over 32 hours.
At least, that's the plan at the moment, so far it's changed every few hours since they started on Monday!
